The Senior Center Cultural Initiative is a wonderful opportunity to bring together senior citizens and students from the local community to bridge the generations and share stories.

In this innovative hands-on program, Working Playground high school students from New Design High School (enrolled in our Advanced Media program) are working with senior citizens at the Lillian Wald Houses to unearth and bring their New York City stories to life through the creation of a memory book. This project aligns with Working Playground's mission of transforming communities through meaningful artistic exchange, developing our students as active citizens and pre-professionals, and building collaborative relationships with local organizations and partners.

This project provides a unique and first of its kind opportunity for seniors at The Lillian Wald Houses to engage in an intergenerational arts program. This program provides a participatory hands on experience as seniors learn how to use various media, including photography, video and writing to document, share and bring their memories and stories to life. This project allows the members to share their final projects with their families, their peers and the community at large while leaving them with a keepsake archive.
